A parent who lives alone: the people she calls, on one screen
A few large buttons on her phone, one per person she calls most, so a call starts from one screen instead of the contact list.
What happens
She lives on her own and phones family when she wants to talk or needs something. The slow part is the phone: unlock, open the dialler, scroll, find the right name among similar ones.
BabushkApp adds one screen of large buttons, one name on each. A tap starts a call or a text to that person.
Set it up in BabushkApp
Agree together who goes on the screen
Two to four people is usually enough: you, a sibling, a neighbour nearby. Ask the neighbour first whether they agree to be on her screen, and which number to use.
Make the first button on her phone
On her phone, tap “Set up buttons” below. In “Quick setup” enter your name and your number with the country code, choose “Call” and tap “Continue”. Tap “Check this button”; when her phone offers a call to you, come back and tap “I checked it — add to screen”.
Add the neighbour and the others
Press and hold “Setup” for a second, tap “Create button” and add each person the same way, each with its own colour under “Button color”. Tap “Add”, then “Save”.
Optional: a text button
Add an “SMS” button to your number with a “Default message”, for example “Please call me”. Her messages open with the text ready; she still presses Send.
Put the icon on her home screen
Add the BabushkApp icon to her first home screen (iPhone and Android guides below). Setup opens only after a one-second press, so a normal tap changes nothing.
Check that the button works
- Sit with her and let her tap each button once, starting from the icon. Warn each person that a test call is coming.
- Some phones ask “Call?” first or open the dialler with the number filled in. Show her what hers does and what to press next.
What BabushkApp does not do
- It tells you nothing: not whether she tapped a button, made a call or used the phone at all. No check-ins, reminders or alerts.
- It does not know where she is, sends no location and never calls anyone by itself.
- It is not an alarm or an emergency service. “Quick setup” has an unticked box to add a button that dials the emergency number shown next to it; that button only dials. If you add it, check the number is right for her country.
- If the family needs alerts or daily check-ins, that is a different kind of product, such as a personal alarm. BabushkApp is not one.
- Buttons are stored in this browser and can disappear if its data is cleared; keep a copy with “More” → “Save a copy” in Setup.
